Sabastia

This past weekend was Eid so we had a five day weekend which was really nice. On Monday we visited Sabastia which is this little town 20 or so minuets outside of Nablus. This town is one of the oldest places/oldest architecutre in the world(I think..?). In the town there are ruins from when the Romans concured the land, traces from the Greeks, Persians, Arayans and Byzantine and others. It is home to the tomb of John the Baptist and his prision. I got to walk down into it, it would have ben a miserable place to be. They dropped his food through a whole in the floor of the church and there were two small windows for light. It was a very cool place to visit and I am glad that I went. It became under Isreali occupatuon during the 1967 war and they attempted to remove artifactts fromo theh area. ONly wiht some success though, the sings of their ocupation still remian. One of the collest parts was this house that was inhabited by a famly untill a few years ago when they realized that there was a hole level underneeth their house, filled wiht sand that contained ruins. We were able to wlk in there and see the diferent hieights of doors that had been used by the family that lived there. We got a falafel and walked around and talked to a few people before we left.
